Real-Time Run-of-River Hydropower Operations
Wind and solar power generation are variable, and these variations in renewable generation are unpredictable. Balancing a power system with large penetrations of renewables requires resources that can ramp quickly and store energy. One such resource is conventional hydropower plants. However, there is little research on the benefits of doing optimization and/or hydro-wind coordination in real-time operations.
